Bangpu Aids the Water-Saving, Efficiency-Enhancing Transformation of Grassland Farms

Project Case: Agricultural Irrigation

On the vast Hulunbuir Grassland, Hulunbuir Agricultural Reclamation Group manages a total of 5.76 million mu of arable land, with Hadatu Farm and Ranch accounting for 343,400 mu. The farm primarily cultivates wheat, rapeseed, and high-value cash crops like potatoes and sugar beets. However, plagued by a climate where "drought strikes nine out of ten years", the yields from large stretches of dryland remain low. Traditional irrigation methods are not only costly but also inefficient, making water supply a critical bottleneck hindering the farm's development.

In 2024, Hadatu Farm and Ranch proactively advanced agricultural modernization by introducing shallow subsurface drip irrigation technology integrated with water and fertilizer management. The goal was to achieve intelligent irrigation, efficient water conservation, and precise fertilization, thereby upgrading the previously large-area semi-arid farmland into high-standard cropland. The Bangpu technical team was invited to the site to gain first-hand insights into the project needs and develop a feasible water supply solution tailored to the farm's irrigation system upgrade. Given the farm's extensive area, the drip irrigation system covers over 250,000 mu of arable land, and the main pipeline is expected to extend over 70 kilometers. Ensuring stable long-distance, large-flow front-end water supply for this massive and complex irrigation system emerged as a key challenge for the project's success.

On-Site Assessment and Customized Solutions

Hadatu Farm spans a vast area with a large irrigation coverage, so the front-end pump house needed to deliver sufficient water flow and maintain stable water pressure for long-distance supply. Considering the intelligent control scenario involving large-area, long-distance, and multi-pipeline water transmission from the pump house to various parts of the farm, Bangpu proposed the following solutions:

Core Power Assurance

Double-suction pumps are ideal for water supply scenarios requiring large flow and medium-low head. Compared to other basic pump types, they not only provide large-flow water supply but also operate more energy-efficiently, making them widely used in agricultural irrigation. For this project, we selected high-power BPO series high-voltage motor double-suction pumps, and multiple units work in tandem to ensure the required flow and water pressure for the drip irrigation system.

Intelligent Control System

Given the farm's wide irrigation area, the pump station's water transmission needed to support independent control of multiple zones. The electrical control team equipped the equipment with main switch control cabinets, intelligent control cabinets, and small control boxes. These devices enable multi-level real-time monitoring of water pressure and flow, allowing for precise adjustment of each link,reducing energy consumption, and enhancing system stability.

Sewage and Waterlogging Prevention Facilities

To address potential flooding in the pump house, high-efficiency sewage pumps were installed as supporting facilities. These pumps automatically start draining when the water level exceeds the set threshold, preventing equipment damage from water immersion and ensuring the long-term stable operation of the pump house.

Spring Plowing Begins with Notable Results

After the completion of equipment installation and pipeline construction, multiple rounds of testing and maintenance were conducted before the irrigation system was officially put into operation. Bangpu staff also visited the site to inspect and debug the equipment, ensuring stable and reliable water supply and effective control of multiple terminals. In May 2025, as spring brought new growth to the grassland, Hadatu Farm kicked off the new spring plowing season.

Contributing to the development of the farm's high-standard farmland, Bangpu's BPO series double-suction pumps and intelligent control cabinets performed admirably in the new irrigation system. A single unit can deliver water at a rate of 1,200 cubic meters per hour, and this vital water source is transported to every corner of the vast farmland through the irrigation system. Over 250,000 mu of Hadatu Farm's arable land has been upgraded to drip-irrigated fields, achieving water and fertilizer savings along with stable and efficient irrigation, ensuring the smooth progress of spring plowing.

  • Higher Efficiency and Better Energy Savings: The drip irrigation system covers over 250,000 mu. Bangpu's equipment ensures stable long-distance water transmission with sufficient water pressure, guaranteeing the operation of the new irrigation system. It is reported that compared to the old irrigation mode, this system can help the farm save 30%-80% of water and 20%-30% of fertilizer. The irrigation water consumption per mu has decreased from 200 cubic meters to approximately 120 cubic meters, significantly reducing water costs and improving the efficiency of water and fertilizer use.
  • More Intelligent Zone Control: The arable land is divided into multiple irrigation units, and intelligent rotational irrigation is carried out according to priority levels. In combination with frequency converters, the system realizes soft start of water pumps and power matching, reducing peak electricity consumption and improving overall energy efficiency.

It is estimated that after the upgrading of the integrated water and fertilizer system, the crops sown by the farm this year are thriving. With the support of a series of drought prevention and waterlogging drainage facilities, the existing high-standard farmland is expected to increase yields by 100-200 kilograms per mu, representing a 30%-60% increase compared to the original dryland.

Through the comprehensive upgrading of the intelligent irrigation system, Hadatu Farm has solved the problems of high irrigation costs and excessive water consumption in dryland. It has shifted from "passive drought resistance" to "active regulation" and from "extensive water use" to "precision water conservation". The combination of an efficient water supply solution and an intelligent control system maximizes the value of water and fertilizer. This "granary on the grassland" has further achieved upgrades in intelligence and energy efficiency, boosting production and income and promoting the widespread development of high-standard agricultural production.
